The World Health Organization (WHO) is commemorating World TB Day on Thursday by encouraging nations and collaborators to “Unite to End Tuberculosis” from being on the world health scene.
The world is now starting the timeframe set in the Sustain Development Goals of the WHO End TB Strategy. The goal is to eliminate the disease by 2030. This ambitious goal intends to build on significant progress that has been made against TB. Since 2000, health care providers have saved approximately 43 million people.
Unfortunately, more than 4,000 people die because of TB every day. Most of the communities that carry the highest TB burden are vulnerable, poor and marginalized. This means that further collaboration must be done in order to help these areas.
Eliminating the disease requires that governments partner with one another as well as communities, civil society organizations, private sector firms, researchers and development agencies. This will create a whole-of-society and multidisciplinary approach against TB.
The WHO is counting on the continued momentum coming from communities and nations. These include the 30 nations that have the largest TB burden, amounting to more than 85 percent of the worldwide burden. In addition, there are several countries that are improving their strategic agendas and TB programs, with further access to care, usage of newer tools, and connections with other pieces of the government.
