Health officials will launch an anti-polio campaign in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Frontier Regions (FR) beginning Thursday.
The health organizations will use 3,018 teams. These include 2,630 mobile teams, 96 transit teams and 292 fixed teams. All of them will serve to administer anti-polio drops. Their targets are 965,403 children who are under 5 years old, all of them located within the FATA and FRs. The children will receive continuous vaccines for five days.
The highest-risk areas for children to contract polio include South Waziristan, Khyber Agency (Jamrud & Bara), North Waziristan Agency, and FR Bannu, which includes Hindi Khail, Jani Khail, Sintanga, and Baka Khail.
The campaign will be completed with the help of UNICEF, FATA Secretariat Health Officials, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Health Officials. They will work to guarantee that the campaign extends through the entire region in Pakistan.
Eleven Oral Polio Vaccination campaigns have been scheduled for the year. In January, the targeted children numbered 796,824, and in November the count was 951,308. These figures show there has been better accessibility among children who can now reach areas where the vaccine will be administered.
