Uganda’s Ministry of Health recently sent 374 health workers to the nation’s northern area to fight an ongoing malaria epidemic.
This move will serve to heighten the health efforts being made to control the Uganadan epidemic that began in July 2015. More than 1 million people have been infected with malaria, and 658 people have died from the disease.
The health workers include clinical officers, doctors and nurses. They will be in the region for 30 days to provide health facility-level case management.
The team will help 285 facilities including health center IIs, IIIs and IVs and general hospitals. The team will be separated and spread throughout the health care facilities to best serve the local residents.
Thanks to a variety of interventions, there has been a steady decrease in the cases that have been detected
The interventions include improved surveillance, tracing anyone with symptoms and signs of malaria, and offering anti-malaria drugs and supplies to the facilities in the areas most afflicted with the illness.
