Health professionals encourage the public to take proactive measures against mosquitoes to reduce cases of dengue fever this season.

These measures include cleaning out potential breeding sites and emptying vector breeding sites. People should also be aware of infected mosquitoes when they travel to areas affected by the virus.

The Central Epidemic Command Center for Dengue Outbreak has released statistics about the virus. There have been 239 additional indigenous dengue cases in Taiwan as of Nov. 9. These include another 195 cases in Kaohsiung City and 33 cases in Tainan City.

There have been 31,995 indigenous dengue cases confirmed since this summer. These include 22,195 human cases confirmed in Tainan City, 9,219 cases for Kaohsiung City, and 180 cases in Pingtung City. There were imported and sporadic cases based in other counties and cities.

As of Nov. 9, there was a new death connected to dengue infection. This brings the total to 141 people who have died from dengue fever, including 29 deaths in Kaohsiung City, 110 deaths in Tainan City, and two in Pingtung City. All of these appear to be connected to dengue infections.

Officials say these figures demonstrate the need to take proactive steps to protect people from the spread of the disease.
