The Ministry of Health of the government of Sri Lanka recently began to implement a dengue elimination program in its Western Province.
The eradication program began Monday and will last for three days. As part of the program, the Health Ministry has created 426 teams to handle its application.
The government decided to implement this program in light of the rising number of patients who have dengue fever. Health professionals attribute this rise to the rainy season that is currently in progress.
The national health authorities have warned the general public that there is an increase in dengue cases. They have encouraged people to maintain clean environments, which will help prevent the mosquitoes from breeding throughout the rainy season.
Dr. Paba Palihawadana, the director of the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health, said there has also been a rise in dengue cases in the surrounding area, As of today, there have been 27,696 suspected cases for this year, with 54 of these cases resulting in death.
Health experts report that an estimated 52.1 percent of the cases were detected in the Western province. Approximately 9,215 cases have been located within the Colombo District.
