Roll Back Malaria Partnership representatives discussed the best strategy for fighting malaria at the 64th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in Philadelphia last week.
RBM partners including the
Innovative Vector Control,
Medicines for Malaria Venture, Malaria No More, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the ACT Consortium attended the event to encourage action and investments that could decrease and eventually eliminate malaria.
The World Health Organization’s Pedro Alonso, director of the WHO Global Malarial Programme, hosted a panel to promote the Global Technical Strategy and Action and Investment to defeat Malaria. In addition, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Malaria No More co-sponsored a panel discussion on what is needed to eliminate malaria.
The meeting included clinicians, scientists and other health professionals who attended workshops, scientific sessions, courses, educational plenaries, and poster sessions about malaria. Their main focus was on those living in poverty who are disproportionately more likely to contract illnesses like malaria.
