The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) recently received a certificate for Best Practice from the Association of Medial Research Charities (AMRC).
The MRF is determined to use donated funds to the best of its ability, and peer review is one way that agencies stay accountable for sustaining their commitments.
The certificate was part of the latest Peer Review Audit 2015, which is conducted by the AMRC every five years. All of the AMRC’s members are evaluated according to balance, accountability, rotation, independence and impartiality.
“One of the membership criteria of the AMRC is that all member charities must seek advice from external experts to make decisions about which research applications should be funded,” Linda Glennie,
MRF’s head of research and medical information, said. “We are very grateful to our independent Scientific Advisory Panel and over 150 external reviewers who have freely devoted so much of their time and effort since the last audit to ensure that we fund research of the greatest scientific merit. We’re delighted that the AMRC and our peers have awarded us the Best Practice certificate as it confirms once again that our research procedures conform to the highest standards.”
Peer reviews are the AMRC’s opportunity to show to various stakeholders — funders, governments, donors and researchers — that the agency’s commitments hold strong to high standards, probity and accountability in the donated funds.
