Both local and international leaders are working on improvements that will help India’s strategy for malaria elimination.
Eliminating malaria has gained more attention recently because of the high mortality and morbidity rates within India. Since 1953, the nation has battled the illness; now leaders want to make this the final push to eradication.
The leaders intend to use the latest technology to improve the national framework.
“Convergence with Swachch Bharat campaign for source reduction to deal with mosquitogenic conditions would be quite pertinent,” Dr. B.D. Athani said.
The leaders plan to use experience with success, situational analyses, challenges, lessons learned and weaknesses to create a better strategy that will be more effective in helping the nation eliminate malaria. The new strategies must be context-specific because of the diverse culture within India. There also must be more involvement and alignment from all of the sectors and levels within the country.
“More focus needs to given at the grassroots towards further strengthening and establishing resilient community systems that can take informed decision and avail timely and quality services,”
