ShanIPV, an inactivated, injectable polio vaccine (IPV), will soon be accessible for infants in India.
ShanIPV is a new polio vaccine that was produced in Hyderabad, India, by Shantha Biotechnics and Sanofi Pasteur. These two companies will offer most of the
new vaccine’s doses throughout the nation.
The first new shipment will be delivered within the next few days. These will be part of the routine vaccination schedule for all of the infants living in India.
“Ours will be the last generation to see the horror of children paralyzed or killed by polio. I am sure,” Pr Jacob John, of Christian Medical College in Vellore, said. “Maybe we will remember 2015 as the year we took the final step to eradicate this disease forever.”
Health professionals see this as a sign of important progress in polio eradication.
