The Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare in India, Shri J P Nadda, recently launched the new National Framework for Malaria Elimination 2016-2030.
The framework provides the health industry with a strategy to eradicate the disease by 2030. It outlines objectives, goals, targets, strategies and timelines that will help to eliminate malaria. There are separate guidelines for every state for each respective epidemiological circumstance.
Currently, India has trained health workers and an adequate health system for implementing the guidelines. Previous training for the Polio and Elimination of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus will be useful in eliminating malaria. In addition, the medicines and diagnostic kits are readily available throughout the nation, as the delivery system has been streamlined to better serve the people.
Nadda said if India can eliminate malaria from its population, it will reduce the burden of the disease’s control program and the out-of-pocket expense rates.
“India stands committed to eliminating Malaria and is committed to allocating infrastructure and financial resources to this task,” he said. “This framework has been developed with a vision to eliminate malaria from the country and contribute to improved health and quality of life and alleviation of poverty.”
