The Ethiopian News Agency recently reported that the Ministry of Health has launched a new vaccination campaign designed to protect children from polio.

The campaign targets 2.8 million children as health care workers will travel throughout the nation to administer the vaccines among Ethiopian residents.
The children will receive an injection vaccine, even if they have already received a vaccine in the form of drops.

The Ministry of Health has taken other proactive measures to reduce child mortality in Ethiopia, as mothers and children often die during delivery because of a lack of health care resources.

This year, there were fewer worldwide wild poliovirus transmissions than ever. In Afghanistan and Pakistan, only 66 cases were reported. During the same months in 2014, there were 324 cases reported in nine different nations, a significant improvement for the worldwide health scene.
