People who have HIV and tuberculosis (TB) infections while residing in Eastern Europe have a higher chance of death than similar patients living in Latin America and Western Europe.

The study, published in the Lancet HIV Journal, states that the factors for the higher risk of death are complicated and numerous, amounting to a death risk that is four times higher. This does not undermine the fact that there must be serious measures taken to improve the TB care for Eastern Europeans who have HIV.

The study from Daria Podlekareva and her coworkers emphasizes how alarming this situation is for people who have HIV and TB.

The researchers have made the details of the study available online for the general public to read, and it has been published on a blog that receives sponsorship from the Health Programme of the European Union.
